Jensen Huang Courts China, Lauds Local AI Capabilities

In a notable move, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang opened his speech at the 3rd Chain Expo with Mandarin, praising China's AI models as 'world-class'. He even swapped his signature leather jacket for a traditional Chinese garment, signaling the importance of the Chinese market to NVIDIA.

Huang emphasized that NVIDIA will continue to invest in China, considering AI a new infrastructure no less important than electricity and the internet. He noted that AI is reshaping global supply chains and changing how goods are designed, produced, and transported.

The Next Generation of AI: Human-Machine Collaboration

Huang predicted the emergence of AI capable of understanding the physical world and performing tasks within the next decade, revolutionizing traditional factories. He envisioned a future where humans work alongside AI to produce intelligent products, driving a new round of industrial revolution and growth opportunities.

Expressing admiration for the progress of Chinese electric vehicles, Huang mentioned that Xiaomi has been a close partner of NVIDIA in many fields. He even expressed his desire to buy a Xiaomi car, praising China's progress in electric vehicles over the past five years as 'astonishing to the world'.

Praise for Chinese AI Innovation

Huang lauded Chinese companies for driving the rapid development of AI globally, specifically mentioning companies like Tencent, NetEase, Mihoyo, ByteDance, DeepSeek, Alibaba, MiniMax, and Baidu. He noted that over 1.5 million Chinese developers use NVIDIA technology, constantly driving innovation.

He also praised Chinese companies' adoption of the open-source model, freely opening the underlying code, which promotes international cooperation and the establishment of AI safety standards. He cited the Kimi K2 model recently released by Alibaba-backed Moonshot AI as an example, noting that it has surpassed OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude in some coding indicators, considering Chinese open-source AI a 'catalyst' for global technological progress.

NVIDIA Prepares to Resume H20 Chip Shipments to China

Huang also revealed that NVIDIA is preparing to resume shipping H20 chips to China, after sales were suspended since April due to US export restrictions. These restrictions have nearly halved NVIDIA's market share in China. Huang stated in May that the company lost $2.5 billion in sales in the quarter ending in April, and expects to lose another $8 billion in the quarter ending in July, with quarterly sales projected at $45 billion.

The market welcomed this news. At the close of the US market on Tuesday, NVIDIA's stock rose 4.04% to $170.7, and its market value rose to $4.17 trillion, an increase of $161.8 billion (approximately RMB 1160.5 billion) in one day.

The Future of AI: Robots that Understand and Execute

Huang emphasized that the development direction of AI in the next ten years is robot systems capable of reasoning and execution, which can collaborate with humans and deeply understand the physical world. This shift has the potential to revolutionize industries across various sectors.
